What to pack ?
The key to a successful trek is to pack layers, as you will be trekking through different terrains, climates and altitudes. You will be going through humid jungles, dry and cold mountain paths.
A Duffle Bag
The evening before the trek, they will give you a small duffle beg to put your belongings and clothes you will bring on your trek with a weight allowance up to 7kg.
Note that you will only be able to access the duffle bag at camp, so you have to take with you the essentials like a rain jacket, medicine if needed, water, gloves, snacks …
A Day Pack
If you are having your belongings being carried by a porter, you will need to bring a light-weight day pack to put all your essential items like water, snacks, rain jacket, scarf, camera etc.
The best ones have a waist strap that will take weight off your shoulders. There are day packs suited for men and women fitted for their different back structures so pay attention to that when choosing a bag.
Trekking towel
Get a towel that doesn’t take much space and that dries fast like the Microfibre towels.
Your Passeport
You will need your passeport to enter Machu Picchu and to pass the Government Checkpoint to enter the trails.
A Base Layer
Often called “first skin”, it is really important especially at the higher points of the trek near the Salkantay pass where it gets colder.
