4 Budget things to do in Turin

Our first stop in Italy during our summer roadtrip in August 2018 was in Turin or Torino, which is about 2 hours from the French border. If you are on a tight schedule, as the city isn’t very big, I would suggest spending a day or two in the city.

In terms of accommodation we slept in a college dorm that also have a hotel facility. We found it through the app Hotel Tonight. But there are plenty of hostels and cheap options in the city.

Have a walk at Parco Valentino.

Parco Valentino is the second largest park in Turin. It covers an area of 500,000m2 and it is located along the West bank river Po.

This park is amazing for a stroll along the river like the picture below. You can also rent bicycles to ride around.

Fun Fact: it was used as Italy’s premier motor racing circuit, and before that it was the seat of the Royal House of Savoy.

When you go, you can also visit the Valentino Castle (you have to get a ticket), a UNESCO listed palace, and the botanical gardens founded in the early 18th Centuries.

You can also visit the Borgo Medieval (the medieval village) (free), that was built for an international exhibition. In the village you can see remodelled medieval artisan workshops. You can visit the castle and get souvenirs from artisan workshops.

IMPORTANT TIP ! Bring / put on loads of bug spray/ mosquito repellent especially in the summer (you will thank me later 😅)2.

2. Walk around Piazza San Carlo and walk up the avenue under the arches

If you are craving for Italian Gelato, I have a great address along these arches !

The Gelato place is called Alberto Marchetti. Their gelato is delicious ! I got Tiramisu, Flor di Latte and peach i think. The flavours were just unbelievable ! Here is the address:  Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, 24 bis, 10123 Torino TO, Italy

3. Walk around Piazza Castello and Palazzo Reale

We couldn’t get in the Palazzo because it was too late in the afternoon but we could see the outside and walk around the piazza. I do recommend going in if you come, especially for the gardens.

4. If you are a football (soccer) fan, you can visit the Juventus Stadium

My boyfriends is a football fan so we visited the Juventus Stadium.

You have 2 parts in the visit: a visit in the Juventus Museum that traces back the story of the stadium and the team, and a guided tour of the Stadium itself with visits of the football pitch, the lockers and changing rooms amongst other rooms.

Tip: Get there early and on weekdays because it is popular ! Also if you can book online, it’s even better !
